Odwa Mtati brings exceptional strategic leadership to his role as CEO of the South African International Maritime Institute (SAIMI), hosted at Nelson Mandela University. Since SAIMI's inception in 2014, he has fulfilled various strategic roles, gaining deep insight into the maritime sector's critical importance to South Africa's economy, including engagement with Operation Phakisa Oceans Economy structures. His diverse career includes serving as former CEO of the Port Elizabeth Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PERCCI) and Director of Jupilog Enterprise Development. His professional journey spans roles at Canon Eastern Cape, the Department of Correctional Services, and Head of Marketing at Port Elizabeth Technikon and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. Odwa's commitment to development extends through extensive board service, including past chairperson of Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism, Deputy Chairperson of the Eastern Cape Gambling Board, and leadership roles in community development trusts. He holds a Master's Degree in Development Studies from Nelson Mandela University, plus BJuris and BA degrees from Vista University. At the African Boating Conference, Odwa will share expertise on the skills development panel.
