James Turner is the CEO and Co-owner of Vision Yachts, a South African builder of award-winning blue-water cruising catamarans based in Knysna.James moved to Knysna at the age of four and developed a lifelong passion for sailing and the ocean from an early age. A lifelong sailor, he has accumulated extensive offshore experience, sailing thousands of nautical miles and competing in numerous offshore races. This practical experience has shaped his philosophy of creating yachts that are seaworthy, efficient, practical, and easy for owners to operate.Before Vision Yachts, James founded and led Custom Marine, a yacht-building company specializing in performance sailing catamarans ranging from 50 to 77 feet. Through Custom Marine, he gained extensive experience in advanced composite construction, yacht design, and performance sailing characteristics.In 2014, James Turner and Brent Watts founded Vision Yachts, combining their experience and passion for building world-class blue-water cruising catamarans. Since then, James has played a leading role in product development, design innovation, and the international growth of the brand.Under James’s leadership, Vision Yachts achieved global recognition when the Vision 444 won Cruising World’s Boat of the Year in the Best Cruising Catamaran Under 50 Feet category, highlighting the company’s commitment to innovation, quality, and real-world sailing capability.Today, James continues to lead Vision Yachts from its Knysna shipyard, remaining deeply involved in design, development, and strategic direction, ensuring every yacht reflects decades of practical sailing and boatbuilding experience.
