Wil Botman (1964) was raised in a family shipyard constructing motorized steel barges for tulip farmers in The Netherlands. After a study of Mechanical Engineering and Business Management he spent 13 years at various OEM's as Salesman for mechanical equipment in water treatment plants, pumping stations and public swimming pools, before spending 22 years at the Commercial Department in Yanmar Marine International (YMI). Since 2003 he was responsible at YMI for global sales operations and contact person for the entire global Distributor network. As such he was the regular contact person for Seascape Marine, the Yanmar Distributor for South Africa, located in Cape Town. Fed by his interest in new marine technology he was contracted by MG Energy Systems last year to join the Sales Department and to support developing a distribution network in the marine sector. MG and Yanmar Development Departments are working closely together to develop combined, smart electric- and hybrid marine propulsion- and power generating solutions for recreational- and commercial boating, supported by MG LFP battery systems. Amongst a range of different Lithium-ion chemistries used for batteries, LFP (Lithium-Iron-Phosphate) is regarded as the preferred, safe, low risk lithium-ion chemistry variant. LFP batteries offer 4-times higher energy density than traditional lead-acid batteries, do not produce H2S during charging, have much higher lifetime, and its condition can be monitored real time at any moment anywhere in the world. MG batteries are easily scalable, easy to install, connective with many other brands, and are offered with multi-layer safety systems to ensure safety on board at all times and in every circumstance. They are supplied in fully enclosed boxes with true IP65 rating and therefore very suitable for marine applications. For marine commercial- and passenger propulsion- and on-board energy storage MG offers LFP battery systems with ES-Trin and Lloyds Certification up to 900V - 2mWh systems in size.
