Wes Bartho is an experienced superyacht captain and remote cruising specialist with more than 18 years at sea and over a decade in command of private and charter yachts operating in some of the world’s most remote and demanding cruising grounds. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Wes has built a reputation for delivering exceptional expedition-style experiences, combining operational excellence with a deep understanding of remote navigation, guest experience, safety management and watersports operations. His expertise spans expedition and remote area cruising, leadership and crew development, refit and special survey project management, and ISM/ISPS compliance. Throughout his career, Wes has successfully overseen complex refits and yard periods, working closely with owners’ teams, shipyards and contractors to deliver projects efficiently and to the highest standards. As captain of the expedition charter yacht Galileo, Wes brings valuable firsthand insight into the opportunities and challenges of developing emerging cruising destinations, particularly across Africa and the Indian Ocean region.
