Head of Skills, Education, Training, and Capacity Development at the South African International Maritime Institute (SAIMI)
Nondumiso Mfenyana heads Skills, Education, Training, and Capacity Development at the South African International Maritime Institute (SAIMI). She is responsible for facilitating and lobbying training and skills development in the South African Maritime Industry. Part of her role is leading the Skills Expert Groups through Operation Phakisa focus areas and representing the organization at respective maritime Delivery Units. She previously worked as Manager: Centre for Fishing at South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA), where she was responsible for the safety of the commercial Fishing industry and Maritime Industry Development programmes. In her role at SAMSA, she was chairperson of the National Fishing Industry (NFF) and, member of Operation Phakisa: Marine Transport Manufacturing task team for the Fishing Recapitalisation project. She continues to serve in several stakeholder platforms to ensure sustainable Maritime Industry development. She also serves as the executive secretariat at the Maritime Business Chamber (MBC), supporting the interests of small businesses in Maritime. Nondumiso started her career with the National Department of Environment Forestry and Fisheries (DFFE) as an Oceanographic Research Scientist. She was later promoted to Deputy Director: Fisheries Resource Manager. She is an Environmental Scientist by profession. She obtained her Master of Philosophy in Fisheries Management at the University of Bergen, in Norway and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Rhodes University and she is currently pursuing her PhD studies.
