Founder, Madascarenes
Christophe Caumes is a seasoned conservationist and expedition leader with deep roots in the Indian Ocean. Originally from Réunion Island, he grew up immersed in nature and inspired by his family’s traditions of healing and connection to the land. His career spans more than 14 years with the Réunion National Park, where he led UNESCO World Heritage initiatives, directed anti-poaching and research teams, and contributed to the rediscovery of the long-lost Bourbon Black Petrel. In 2018, Christophe founded Madascarenes, a bespoke travel agency based in Madagascar that curates immersive land-and-sea expeditions showcasing the region’s biodiversity and cultural heritage. From guiding scientists and documentary filmmakers to creating sustainable journeys for discerning travellers, he combines environmental stewardship with tourism development to position Madagascar and the wider Indian Ocean as frontiers of eco-conscious adventure and discovery.
