Don McKee brings over a decade of hands-on experience at sea to his role as Co-Founder of YOA Yacht Crew. His maritime career began as race crew aboard a fleet of 1987 America’s Cup yachts, progressing to chief officer and relief captain on superyachts up to 90m. In 2014, Don co-founded YOA Yacht Crew, building a global team of 19 recruitment agents who share his down-to-earth approach and firsthand insight into life on board. YOA is recognised for connecting the right crew with the right yachts — not simply filling positions, but ensuring a strong fit for both crew and clients in a competitive industry. Passionate about nurturing new talent, Don established a training facility that equips aspiring crew with practical skills, industry expectations, and the professionalism to excel. Over the years, he has trained thousands of crew, many of whom have risen to become senior officers and captains. In recognition of his mentorship and dedication to the industry, Don has been nominated for the 2025 ACREW “Best Mentor” Award. At the African Boating Conference, he will share his insights on building successful crew careers and strengthening the superyacht talent pipeline.
